Wildlife Act regulatory amendments Phase 2 – Public Engagement

What was this engagement about?

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has made regulatory amendments under the Wildlife Act to address issues such as the import of harmful species, the declaration of wild pigs as a pest species, hunter training requirements, and wildlife management and monitoring by industry.

How could I participate?

The public engagement period is now closed. Public meetings were held across the NWT in:

  • Norman Wells
  • Yellowknife
  • Fort Smith
  • Hay River
  • Ulukhaktok
  • Inuvik
  • Tuktoyaktuk
  • Paulatuk
  • Sachs Harbour
  • Fort McPherson
  • Aklavik
  • Tsiigehtchic

How can my input make a difference?

The new regulations incorporate feedback brought forward by Indigenous governments and organizations, stakeholders and the public. Comments received though the public engagement period helped develop and refine the proposed regulatory amendments and WMMP guidelines, which are important for the continued conservation of wildlife in the NWT.

Where can I find results?
