What was this engagement about?
The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) conducted public engagement on amendments to the Environmental Protection Act (EPA) and development of a proposed NWT Air Regulatory Framework in 2016.
The amended EPA gives the GNWT authority to develop air regulations and create the foundation for an air regulatory system. It also increases the authority of the Minister to take action to address specific air quality issues.
Bill 27 – An Act to Amend the Environmental Protection Act became law in October 2017.
