The first NWT Biodiversity Action Plan was released in 2004. It was developed by the NWT Biodiversity Action Team, and describes the numerous initiatives underway in the NWT that support the goals of Canadian Biodiversity Strategy and the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (UNCBD).

This Action Plan was followed by the second NWT Biodiversity Action Plan in 2006, which presented a gap and overlap analysis for NWT actions and recommendations for future NWT actions to fill gaps and increase cooperation.

Biodiversity in the NWT State of the Environment

The NWT State of the Environment, first released in 2009, assessed the status and trends of environmental indicators in the NWT, including biodiversity. In 2010, a Biodiversity Special Edition of the NWT State of the Environment Report was released. The most recent NWT State of the Environment Highlights Report was released in 2016, and a new report is anticipated for 2022.
