Starting July 1, 2019, new restrictions on importing live deer and specific deer parts from harvested animals came into effect under the Northwest Territories (NWT) Wildlife Act regulations.

The Forest Management Division (FMD) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) is responsible for monitoring forest health conditions across the NWT to ensure the forest has the capacity for renewal after a wide range of disturbances, and is able to retain its ecological resiliency while meeting the current and future needs of NWT residents.
Ever wonder how to easily track wildlife in the winter? A pilot study in the Sahtu Region collected such information helping to achieve the regional coverage necessary for monitoring changes to wildlife distribution brought about by industrial development, natural disturbance and climate change. Environment and Natural Resources’ issue #15 of the NWT al Research Bulletin (NERB) series is now available and highlights Tracking Wildlife in the Sahtu Region. Bulletins are issued regularly here to provide a summary of research findings or concepts for NWT residents and northern resource decision makers. Please feel free to circulate broadly.
