Wildland Fire Update for May 19, 2017

One new wildand fire has been reported in the Northwest Territories this year. Fire EV-001, started yesterday near Fort McPherson, is out. Cause of the fire is suspected to be person-caused.

The forests in the Northwest Territories are dry. Fire danger is high in most parts of the Deh Cho, North Slave and South Slave Regions. Warm, dry and windy conditions forecasted for the long weekend.

People are advised to use caution with campfires, if they are necessary for cooking or keeping warm. Please NO bonfires. Burn permits are required for any fire other than cooking or warmth.  Do not leave any fire UNATTENDED even if you are camping in a Territorial Park. Make sure your fire is completely out before you leave it. Have a happy and safe Victoria Day weekend and don’t let your carelessness be the cause of a wildland fire.

Wildland Fire Updates will be issued as the fire situation and conditions in the Northwest Territories require. Updates are posted online at www.nwtfire.comwww.enr.gov.nt.ca and the NWT FIRE Facebook page.
