The Northwest Territories has an abundance of fish in the many lakes and rivers found in its boreal forest, tundra, mountains and Canadian Shield. Fish stocks in the NWT are harvested for subsistence, commercial and recreational use.
Sport fishing is enjoyed by residents and visitors. A Sport Fishing Licence is required all residents and non-residents except:
- NWT and Canadian residents under the age of 16 or 65 years of age and over unless fishing in an area requiring an additional validation; and,
- Non-resident anglers under the age of 16 who are accompanied by a person holding a valid sport fishing licence or unless they are fishing in an area requiring an additional validation.
Sport fishing licences are available from ENR offices and several other locations.
