General Status Ranking

NWT General Status Ranking is a collaborative effort with all agencies working on wild species here.

It has been collecting information on species in the NWT since 1999 as a tool to reach common understanding on the general status of species. It builds on collective knowledge to manage human activities in an ecologically sustainable manner.

This system is shared by all other Canadian jurisdictions and is similar to systems used by other countries. This helps set conservation priorities territorially, nationally, and internationally — especially across the circumpolar regions of the world.

Information is updated, corrected, and new information is added to a catalogue of referenced information called the NWT Species Infobase.
