The NWT Water Stewardship Strategy Action Plan for 2016-2020 builds on the momentum of NWT Water Stewardship: A Plan for Action, 2011-2015 and continues to put into motion the vision of the Northern Voices, Northern Waters: NWT Water Stewardship Strategy (Water Strategy). The Water
Strategy and Action Plans were developed by water partners to create a collaborative, partnership-based approach to enhance and promote water stewardship in the Northwest Territories (NWT) at all levels.

NWT Environmental Research Bulletin
A series of brief plain language summaries of various environmental research findings in the Northwest Territories. If you’re conducting environmental research in the NWT, consider sharing your information with northern residents in a bulletin. These research summaries are also of use to northern resource decision-makers.

Update on October 31, 2013 structural failure of the Green Pit Tailings pond at the Obed Mountain coal mine, which resulted in 670,000 cubic metres of mine wastewater and solids being discharged into Apetowun Creek and Plante Creek. Spilled minewater flowed from the creeks into the Athabasca River downstream of Hinton, Alberta.
The NWT State of the Conservation Network Report includes comprehensive data and
information from best available sources, which is used to report on indicators and provide a baseline
of comparison for future progress. This first Report focuses solely on protected areas as criteria exist
for protected areas and they are well defined in the NWT. As the NWT progresses with defining specific
criteria for areas to be part of the conservation network, future reports will report on the conservation
network as a whole.
