WKSS Partners

The West Kitikmeot Slave Study Society is a partnership of aboriginal and environmental organizations, government and industry. There are nine founding partners in all with a majority of five aboriginal members. The independent chairperson is chosen by the aboriginal members. Note: The Government of Nunavut joined the WKSS partnership as of July 28, 2000.

Inuit Organizations

The three organizations which share the WKSS Inuit Organizations Partner's seat are: 

Kitikmeot Hunters and Trappers Association 
Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated 
Kitikmeot Inuit Association


Nunavut Co Management Organizations

The four organizations which share the WKSS Nunavut Co-Management Organizations Partner's seat are:

Nunavut Impact Review Board
Nunavut Wildlife Management Board
Nunavut Water Board 
Nunavut Planning Commission


Industry

Industry is represented on the WKSS Management Board by the Northwest Territories and Nunavut Chamber of Mines.


Environmental Organizations

The four organizations which share the WKSS Environmental Organizations Partner's seat are: 

Canadian Arctic Resources Committee 
Ecology North 
World Wildlife Fund
Canadian Nature Federation


Government of the Northwest Territories

Government of the Northwest Territories is represented on the Management Board by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.


Government of Canada

Government of Canada is represented on the WKSS Management Board by the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada.


Government of Nunavut

Government of Nunavut is represented on the Management Board by the Department of Sustainable Development.
