Taiga Shield

The second Northwest Territories Level II ecoregion to be revised and mapped is the Taiga Shield and its four Level III ecoregions. The Taiga Shield is the ancient bedrock heartland of northern Canada, and arcs west from Labrador to the eastern shores of Great Bear Lake. This area lies directly east of the Taiga Plains and extends north to the edge of tree line that differentiates it from the Southern Arctic.
