    Make the Switch Campaign

Make the Switch campaign a success!

It is estimated that replacing two regular household bulbs with two CFL bulbs will reduce energy costs by $25 per year, and if all 11,500 bulbs are used effectively the NWT will reduce fuel use by 89,000 litres of diesel fuel and 253 tonnes of CO2.

Yellowknife, N'Dilo and Dettah
In February and March 2008, students, parents, and local environmentalists distributed two energy efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFL) to every household in Yellowknife, N’dilo and Dettah.

In total, 8,672 energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs were distributed by four local organizations, who in turn got to direct a donation to their cause for every bulb distributed.

NWT Communities
ENR in partnership with the Arctic Co-op and Northern Stores supplied and distributed energy efficient CFLs to NWT communities. Residents had the opportunity to bring in two incandescent bulbs to their local grocery store, and replace them with two new 13 Watt CFLs.

Bulbs were distributed to following communities:

Aklavik, Behchoko/Edzo, Deline, Fort Good Hope, Fort Liard, Fort McPherson, Fort Providence, Fort Resolution, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Hay River Reserve, Enterprise, Inuvik, Norman Wells, Paulatuk, Tsiigehtchic, Tuktoyaktuk, Tulita, and Ulukhaktuk.
