Library
The ENR-ITI Shared Services Departmental Library is a specialized technical library serving the needs of the staff of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI). It serves primarily ENR & ITI staff, located throughout the Northwest Territories, but its services also extend to include other GNWT staff and external patrons, with limited borrowing privileges.
The library collection contains approximately 22,000 print titles and several hundred video and CD materials, covering subject areas for which the two Departments have responsibility. View the Library Catalogue online.
The library also has holdings for more than 100 Journals, including print and Online Subscriptions. ENR-ITI Library clients who have a valid library user account also have access to a number of Online Databases and reference resources.
The main collection is located in Yellowknife, with satellite collections located in Inuvik and Hay River. The library is located on the 5th Floor of the Scotia Centre.
The library is open 8:30-12:00 and 1:00-5:00, Monday through Friday. Members of the public are welcome to use the library, but are requested to call ahead.
Materials are not normally signed out from the library by non-GNWT staff, however special arrangement may be made with the Library Manager.
Non-GNWT researchers from outside the area may request items from the library through an interlibrary loan arrangement made through their local public or academic library.
Some of the services specifically provided to ENR & ITI staff include: research and reference services, article reprints, bibliographic searches, current awareness updates, database searches, and interlibrary loans.
A microfiche/film reader/printer is also available for use in the library. As well, GNWT staff have access to color scanners, video equipment, TV and VCRS, as well as video editing equipment and software through the library’s media services. The library is also responsible for 4500 slide images and 3000 raw footage tapes which are available to ENR & ITI staff for the purpose of publishing promotional and scientific and research materials.
